The Weight of Air

The concept behind “The Weight of Air” explores clouds as both a literal and symbolic motif, creating an evocative narrative that reflects the ethereal nature of daydreaming, the mental fog often associated with anxiety, and the dreamlike influence of surrealism. Within this framework, grief becomes a spectrum—most commonly tied to death, yet also present in the quieter losses we endure: the ending of relationships where the person becomes a phantom still walking the earth, the loss of self, or the disappearance of once-held opportunities. Grief can suddenly consume us in its five stages, lingering in parallel with our lives even as we reach acceptance and begin to move forward. Through both my photographic narratives and fine art paintings, I interpret these emotional states, translating psychological depth into layered visual storytelling that feels suspended somewhere between memory, absence, and atmosphere.
